Please tell us your experience or feedback about this gathering. Mahalo! "The Eucharist... The Last Supper... The Passover..." The origins of the Mass are found in Jesus’ Last Supper, which we read in the Gospels as well as in the 1st letter of Paul to the Corinthians. Even people who have never read the Bible know the story because of the famous artworks that depict that moment, noteworthy of which is Leonardo da Vinci’s painting of the Last Supper.
But equally important is to realize that the Last Supper was a celebration of Passover – commemorating Israel’s historical redemption from Egyptian slavery and the subsequent giving of His holy Law. When all was ready, Jesus reclined with the Twelve at Passover table to eat their last meal altogether. Here, on the eve of his death, he showed them the full meaning and symbolism of the Passover memorial. The experience of the Mass comes into sharper focus when we view the Mass from the lens of the Last Supper and the Passover.
